The Masters is the best organised tournament I have seen

The Masters is a well organised tournament; probably the best organised one I have ever seen from the position of a spectator. It is really the tournament of all tournaments.

It all starts at the entrance to the resort. Strict regulations apply here (because of the ban on phones or cameras during tournament rounds), however, at the same time, everyone here is very nice and friendly. “Welcome to the Masters! Have a great day!”, echoes from every corner. It is so magical. Gradually you discover more and more bits and pieces that make the Masters a magnificent experience.

Let me describe to you the effective toilet routine. Queuing is so well organised that no one actually waits too long. The employees occasionally make jokes which are addressed to those taking their time in the toilet. No one feels offended; the spirits are always kept high. Everything takes place in a humorous and friendly atmosphere, and, believe it or not, even queuing for the toilet can be fun.

The longest queue is the one for souvenirs

Similarly functional and effective are also other queues. The queue for souvenirs was probably the longest I have seen. It seemed to be endless. The reason is simple. The original objects from the Masters can be purchased only during the week in which the tournament is held. Of course, it is possible to come across some souvenirs on eBay, but you have to be careful about shopping here since a lot of things might not actually come from the Masters. No wonder everyone wants to buy the original souvenir at the tournament and does not mind standing in a never-ending queue.

What I was quite surprised by were the prices at the Masters – in a positive sense. Everything was affordable, which one might not even expect. You queue for beer expecting to pay a minimum of $10, but nope – you get it for $4 or $5. I really appreciated that.

 Grandstands are often not necessary

The course at Augusta National is very well designed in order to provide the spectators with a perfect view. Grandstands are built just at some places as there is no need for them. People can stand or sit on grassy slopes and still see everything well. From a spectator’s perspective, the accommodating nature of the course’s rolling terrain makes for incredible viewing on the vast majority of holes.

For example, a huge section of the course can be nicely seen from the clubhouse, which is positioned on a hill – 18th, 17th and 16th spreads out in front of you – as if there was no distance between the holes and the spectator. From the 16th hole there is a perfect view of the fifteenth green or the tee number seventeen. Even the 5th green can be spotted from here. Wherever you stand or sit you cannot but feel the local pleasant atmosphere. Disappointed crowd gasps as well as bursts of enthusiasm echo everywhere.

These are all reasons why people – including me – love the Masters.
