A lack of golf coaches

It sounds like a nonsensical statement since the PGA programme annually produces tens of thousands of new coaches, however the number of golfers in the world is not rising, rather the contrary. The question is, is the PGA really successful in producing golf coaches?

America is the promised land of golf and even there it is almost impossible to get a golf lesson. Instead of a golf lesson, players get a golf swing lesson. It is a phenomenon that has been going on for many years. Yet hardly anyone is aware of this paradox and the following statement became a norm over time, i.e. a golf lesson equals a golf swing biomechanics lesson.

The regular golf swing lesson has very little to do with real golf and targeting. Such lessons often focus too much on the exact rehearsal of particular movements such as how to play a chip, putt or drive. After the lesson, the student is keen on trying everything on the course he/she has learned for their money. And so, as a good student who paid attention during the lesson, he/she carefully watches the correct wrist angle during each shot, foot stance width, rotation of hips, distance from the golf ball, whether or not he/she keeps head down properly and so on. But the most important thing is forgotten, i.e. the fact that golf is a game that has the task of getting the ball towards the selected target.

Golf swing lessons do not help us play golf; they focus on the biomechanics of the swing. The concept of getting the ball to the target is omitted. Rather a game of different parts of the body in relation to the ball is played. Every time you play a shot, your attention is focused on your body, not the target. Such a game has nothing in common with golf.

Do you really want to play golf? Or is your goal to compete for the most perfect golf swing on the driving range?
